Poly Prep seeks applicants for the part-time position of Speech & Debate Faculty for the 2026 - 2027 school year. We seek a dynamic, organized, and inspiring educator to lead and grow our Middle School Debate Program. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate speech and debate professional who thrives on mentoring students, building programs, and fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity and excellence.

The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills, a deep commitment to speech and debate education, and the ability to guide students at all levels—from beginners discovering their voice to advanced competitors refining high-level strategy. This role includes coaching in Cross-Examination (Policy) Debate and supporting Platform/Public Address speech events, as well as representing the program at competitions. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Design, implement, and lead engaging middle school debate programming.
  • Serve as the primary on-campus point person for middle school debate students.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Debate, the Director of Speech, and consultant coaches, hired judges, and other stakeholders to make programmatic decisions, design curriculum, and perform other relevant program tasks.
  • Manage and lead in-person after-school practices with lectures, drills, and/or practice rounds in preparation for tournament competition.
  • Assist in program planning, budgeting, and growth initiatives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of contemporary competitive practices and trends in addition to national circuit scouting and consequent preparation of research.
  • Oversee chaperoning and day-of tournament registration requirements while fulfilling coaching/judging duties.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students on program trips while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Experience: National circuit coaching experience.

  • National Debate Tournament - Cross-Examination Debate Association experience as a competitor or coach. 
  • Strong Speech knowledge in: Dramatic and Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Program Oral Interpretation, and Original Oratory.

Specific Skills: Rudimentary logistical skills in following travel itineraries, excellent organizational skills, fluent in Verbatim software, Tabroom, and file production. 

Certifications/Licenses: N/A

Special Requirements: Available for after school hours/programming and weekend tournaments, local and air travel. 

Salary: $40,000 - $50,000
