Lower School Classroom Assistant

Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Classroom Assistant at the Lower School. The Classroom Assistant plays a vital role in Poly Prep’s Lower School as they facilitate positive student behavior and engagement while supervising and supporting groups of students during their onsite learning. Classroom Assistants must be on campus in order to perform their job. This part-time position works Monday through Friday for 3.5 hours per day, from approximately 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM, although hours may vary. The role is from September 8, 2026 through June 11, 2027.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet students and create a welcoming learning environment
- Assist with classroom supervision throughout the morning including arrival, lunch, recess, special subjects, class time, transitions, field trips, and trips to the park
- Uphold safety protocols, including social distancing, mask wearing, and handwashing at all times
- Support students at independent centers and choice time
- Attend to students’ social and emotional needs as they arise
- Communicate professionally with all members of the community
- Observe students for health concerns and refer students in need to the health team
- Collaborate with other faculty and staff as needed
- Actively participate in a positive school culture through shared duties and other tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma and at least 2 years of college enrollment required.
Experience: Demonstrated interest and experience in working with children.
Salary: $21 - $25/hour
Specific Skills: Facility with digital technology (Gmail, Google Drive, Zoom) and a capacity for learning more; flexibility and willingness to adapt.
