School Nurse

Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of SCHOOL NURSE. The School Nurse plays a vital role in promoting the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff by managing the daily operations of the health office, providing immediate and compassionate care, administering medications, and maintaining accurate health records. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide both emergency and preventative nursing care for all persons at the Dyker Heights campus, including necessary follow-up arrangements and health screenings.
- Maintain first aid equipment to be used throughout the Dyker Heights campus and on field trips.
- In coordination with the nursing team, maintain school health policies to protect the health of students and staff in accordance with the guidelines of the NYC and NYS Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene, including vaccination records, yearly physical exam forms and monitoring all provisions of documentation of required training, physicals, and immunizations.
- Follow procedures for storing and administering both prescription and over-the-counter medications for students and staff, including emergency medications such as EpiPens.
- Regularly maintain accurate and confidential student health records and provide updatesand reports on health data as needed.
- Create, monitor, and proactively communicate in-school medical care, 504, and accommodations plans for students with health conditions/concerns.
- Collaborate with administrators and members of the Student Support, Health, and Wellness team to discuss trends and best practices, inform curriculum, and promote a school culture that prioritizes health, safety, and well-being.
- Complete confidential employee health and injury records/incident reports.
- Provide confident, expeditious, and calm support, direction, and follow-up in the event of a health crisis.
- Stay abreast of best practices and medical developments to support the management of chronic health conditions of students, including asthma, diabetes, and severe allergies.
- Ensure that the health office is properly staffed on all days when students and faculty are expected to be present.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of Student Support, Health, and Wellness.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Valid Registered Professional Nurse license in the state of New York
Experience: 5 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in schools
Specific Skills:
- High-level interpersonal skills and a deep understanding and commitment to maintaining professional boundaries with students from grades Nursery through 12th grade and their families
- Familiarity with technology, including maintaining data platforms (such as Magnus and August Schools), spreadsheets, and the entire Google Suite
- Desire to work in a collaborative environment, and a proven track record as a team player
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated organizational and crisis management skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain calm in high-pressure situations
- Excellent assessment skills with the ability to intervene appropriately to continually meet the needs of students and staff
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate services between the school, local health agencies, and other community resources
Salary: $64,000 - $87,000 (All years of experience welcome to apply)
Employment Info: M-F, 12pm-6pm; 30 Hours/week with benefits
