Director of Squash

Brooklyn, NY

Poly Prep's mission is to prepare and inspire the next diverse generation of leaders and global citizens to act with intelligence, imagination, and––above all––character.

Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Director of Squash for the 2026-27 Academic Year. This is a rare ground-floor opportunity to build a squash program from the ground up at one of Brooklyn's premier independent schools. Poly Prep Country Day School is seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial, highly qualified professional with the playing experience, coaching expertise, passion, and vision to establish a thriving, Poly-centered program and inspire the next generation of Poly Prep student-athletes. At its core, this role is about Poly Prep students. The Director's first and primary responsibility is to build a program that serves our community — developing talent across Lower, Middle, and Upper School, competing at the varsity level, and cultivating a culture of excellence rooted in Poly's mission and values. Every decision, from recruiting to programming to partnerships, should reflect and reinforce what makes Poly Prep distinctive.

Within two to three years, as the Poly program matures, the role is envisioned to expand into a revenue-generating Poly Prep Squash Academy — a regional program that carries the Poly name and identity into the broader squash community, serving players from across the Northeast while continuing to put Poly students first..

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Program Leadership & Coaching

  • Direct and oversee all aspects of junior squash development across Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School.
  • Develop, lead, and supervise practice sessions; coach Varsity and Middle School squads throughout the competitive season.
  • Build a program culture grounded in athletic excellence, personal growth, and respect — consistent with Poly Prep's mission and values.
  • Organize and host a minimum of two sanctioned tournaments per year on Poly Prep's courts, positioning the school as a hub for competitive squash in the region.

Physical Education Teaching

  • Potential to teach curricular physical education classes as part of a full-time school schedule.
  • Provide individual and small-group squash instruction to students of all skill levels.

College Placement & Recruiting

  • Guide student-athletes through the college recruiting process, leveraging squash's strong pipeline into Ivy League, NESCAC, and other highly selective programs.
  • Cultivate and maintain active relationships with college coaches at top programs nationwide.
  • Recruit prospective student-athletes to apply to Poly Prep, positioning the program as a premier destination for competitive junior squash.

Alumni Engagement & Community Building

  • Organize and activate the Poly Prep squash alumni community to support program advancement, mentorship, and fundraising.
  • Build relationships with the broader squash community, including potential partnerships with organizations such as City Squash, to expand access and credibility.
  • Represent Poly Prep Squash at regional and national events, raising the school's profile in the squash world.

Program Administration & Events

  • Oversee day-to-day administration of the program, including scheduling, travel coordination for away matches and overnight trips, and budget management.
  • Construct and direct junior clinics, tournaments, and sanctioned US Squash events.

Academy Development (Year 2–3)

Looking ahead, this role is expected to evolve into something larger. The right candidate will help shape and eventually run a Poly Prep Squash Academy — a regional program open to players from across the greater New York area. This academy will generate revenue through lessons, clinics, and programming while elevating Poly's standing as a premier squash destination.
