
Debate Assistant Coach
Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Debate Assistant Coach from September 2025 through June 2026. We seek a talented and dynamic individual with knowledge of contemporary argumentative understanding of the highest levels of competitive academic debate. The ideal candidate will provide a joyful and equitable experience for our students during practices and tournaments, enriching our nationally and locally successful debate program. In addition to enthusiasm, integrity, and leadership qualities, we seek candidates that have competitive and coaching experience in Cross-Examination/Policy debate at the high school (national circuit preferred) and NDT-CEDA levels. Familiarity with Individual Events and/or Congressional Debate is preferred as is creative vision that is closely aligned with our commitment to anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion. The Debate Assistant Coach will serve as a role model for our students and contribute skills and talents to our community at large.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead in-person, after-school practices with lectures, drills, and/or practice rounds in preparation for tournament competition.
- Assist in argument construction and file production for student comprehension and review argument/block construction for students.
- Maintain knowledge of contemporary competitive practices and trends in addition to national circuit scouting and consequent preparation of research.
- Prepare recorded lectures and assist in curricular content in collaboration with the Director of Debate as well as review student submissions and evidentiary assignments.
- Collaborate with the Director of Debate, the Director of Speech, and consultant coaches, hired judges, and other stakeholders to make programmatic decisions, design curriculum, and perform other relevant tasks.
- Oversee chaperoning and day-of tournament registration requirements while fulfilling their coaching/judging duties, and work to ensure the safety and well-being of all students on trips.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma required, Bachelors Degree preferred
Experience: At least 3 years of high school Cross-Examination/Policy debate competitive experience. Competitive and coaching experience in National Debate Tournament-Cross-Examination Debate Association collegiate debate is highly preferred.
Specific Skills: Rudimentary logistical skills in following travel itineraries, excellent organizational skills, fluent in Verbatim software, Tabroom, and file production

Special Requirements: Available for weekend tournaments, local and air travel
Compensation Range: $10,000.00 to $15,000.00 from September 2025 through June 2026
