Speech and Debate Assistant Coach
Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Speech and Debate Assistant Coach from December 2024 through May 2025. We are looking for specialists in one or more of the following areas: Public Forum Debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, Policy Debate, Individual Speech Events. We seek a talented and dynamic individual with a knowledge of modern trends in one or more of the events previously listed who is committed to providing a joyful and equitable experience for our students during practices and tournaments and whose enthusiasm, integrity, and leadership will enrich our nationally and locally successful debate program. The ideal candidate will be able to provide the highest quality of coaching, preparation and research to students at the beginner and advanced levels when assisting in competition preparation. Assistant coaches should also be available to attend tournaments as on-site coaches and judges, and will be compensated additionally per tournament. Assistant Coaches will be hired as part time seasonal faculty, for an average of 4 working hours per week.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Coach students at weekly practices as an expert in an individual speech or debate event
- Research, produce speech or debate materials, review student work, and provide asynchronous instruction to students
- Collaborate with the program director, associate director, and head coaches to meet the needs of students
- Assistant Coaches will be asked to travel and judge at tournaments as they are able to, either local to NYC or on the national circuit
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: Three years of speech or debate competition or coaching history
Specific Skills: Knowledge of modern trends in Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, Policy Debate or Speech Events; research skills; excellent communication and organizational skills
Special Requirements: available for weekend travel
Compensation: $3,000.00 from December 2024 through May 2025
