Sergeant
Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Sergeant. The Sergeant will serve a diverse school community while providing a safe and secure environment for students and all who work or visit our campuses, in addition to supervising shift security officers. In the absence of the Director and Associate Director of Security, the Sergeant will be responsible for ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed. The position hours are Monday to Friday 2PM to 10PM. Mandatory events that may require working on weekends and hours may be subject to change due to school functions and needs of the department/institution.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Cover a post/shift when needed.
- Monitor/authorize entry of school personnel, students and visitors.
- Conduct building rounds when needed.
- Ensure that all security personnel are in full uniform and covering all posts/events as needed.
- Assist the Head of School and Human Resources with emergency or investigative situations which may include completing incident reports as needed
- In the absence of the Director and Associate Director of Security, maintain relationships with city, state, federal and local agencies as needed.
- Assist with the bus service (AM, PM, and 6PM), ensuring the safe arrival/departure of all students taking the bus to/from school.
- Reporting all unsafe conditions and potential health and safety hazards to the Head of School and/or Associate Director of Security and appropriate school administrators when necessary.
- Help with providing meal relief during shifts.
- Assist with all health and safety inspections.
- Maintain Fire systems, ensuring that all campus fire systems are in proper working order (Normal state)
- Assist in conducting fire and safety drills (lockdown etc.)
- Monitor surveillance equipment to ensure all systems are working properly.
- Maintain working knowledge of the building’s public address system, cctv systems, fire evacuation routes as well as fire panels, burglar alarm systems.
- Maintain knowledge of Poly Prep’s policies, procedures and protocols.
- Maintain knowledge of Crisis Manual, Security Handbook and Employee Handbook.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Experience: 5 years of experience in field and management/supervisory experience
Specific Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word
- Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Manage the day-to-day operations within the organization. This includes coordinating and deploying security personnel, training new employees properly, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
Certifications:
- HR-218 ( If applicable - Retired Law Enforcement)
- NYS Department of Security Armed Guard License (REQUIRED)
- NYC Fire Department Certificate of Fitness License: S95- Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems and Other Related Systems (REQUIRED)
- F07/W07 - Fire and Emergency Drill Conductor (REQUIRED)
- F03/F04 - Indoor place of Assembly Safety Personnel (REQUIRED)
- CPR/AED Certification (REQUIRED)
Additional certifications as required. If a candidate does not have these at the time of hire, they will be required and an outlined timeframe will be laid out with the employee upon their first week of employment.
Special Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and work in adverse weather conditions
- May have to travel to our other campus as needed
- Ability to take charge with a professional and calm cadence in emergency situations

Hourly Wage: $30.00 to $35.00 per hour
